RUINS IN ALCÂNTARA, MARANHÃO STATE
This is a city of contrasts. One of Brazil’s oldest municipalities, where one can find ruins of ancient buildings, it also harbors a modern rocket-launching center, the CLA.

RUINS IN THE MISSÕES REGION, RIO GRANDE DO SUL
Vestiges of old buildings raised by slaves are slowly consumed by time, in this region with innumerous stories of conflicts and faith.
TERERÉ
The most typical beverage of the Pantanal, it takes the same matte tea used by the “Gauchos” from the South, but in this case it is drunk with cold water poured in a cup (“guampa”) made out of cattle horn.
SÃO LUÍS, MARANHÃO STATE
Founded in 1612, this is the only Brazilian capital colonized by the Frenchmen, and such influence is remarkable on the city’s architecture.

CATTLE IN THE PANTANAL
Extensive cattle raising, the major and most traditional economic activity in the Pantanal, has been going on for approximately 200 years.
PANTANAL COWBOY
This is the major character in the Pantanal’s culture and society. Their way of living, dressing, talking and eating represent the most typical aspects of the region.
SALT EXTRACTION IN RIO GRANDE DO NORTE STATE
This scene perfectly resembles a snow mountain, but it’s just salt awaiting for transportation and processing under a 40 °C (104 °F) sun. This region is Brazil’s major producer of salt.
